Why RAAGA
What you get here that you won’t get elsewhere.
Authentic Carnatic training
Taught in the Guru Shishya Parampara, by ear, by repetition and one phrase at a time. Not a syllabus invented for a website.
Individual attention
Every voice settles at its own pace. Students are taught individually within small batches, so the teaching follows the learner.
Traditional progression
Sarali Swaras through to Manodharma Sangeetham, published in full, so you always know which stage you are at and what comes next.
Performance and academic pathways
Kutcheris, recitals and recordings for those who want the stage. Certificate, Diploma and degree preparation for those who want a qualification.
Anubhava · Listen
Hear what a first lesson sounds like.
Every lesson begins by finding Sa. Tap through the seven swaras, then play the tuning sequence that gives a Carnatic voice its ground.
Tap a swara to hear it. Sa and Pa never move. They are the two fixed notes a tanpura is tuned to, and the reference every other note is heard against. These seven are the whole of Carnatic music; everything else is what you do with them.
Parampara · Meet the tradition
Learned in a line, from your first Sa.
Carnatic music is transmitted, not delivered. It passes from teacher to student by ear and by repetition. A phrase is sung, returned, corrected and returned again. That is the Guru–Shishya Parampara, and it is how every student here is taught.
Students stay with their teacher rather than being handed between instructors as they progress. In this music that continuity is not a nicety; it is how phrasing, gamakas and the discipline of a particular line are actually passed on.
